Text Message Scammers

Dear Resident

Today, I have been to see a resident of Wrockwardine Wood who was the target of scammers contacting them by text message on their mobile phone.

On this occasion the fraudsters sent a fake text message pretending to be a Global Marketplace Company, asking if the victim wanted to cancel their membership. As the victim receiving the message was thinking of cancelling membership due to not using their account, this helped the fraudsters close the trap.

Fortunately, on this occasion the scammers did not get any money from the victim but did get as far as gaining bank details. This has caused huge distress to the victim and now the inconvenience of readdressing the safeguarding of their personal information.
